Midview Athletics hands out its annual Athletic Awards at Senior Assembly

Midview High School's Class of 2023 began its day-long celebration Friday (May 26) with the Senior Awards Assembly. During the event Athletics Director Dan May handed out the department's annual awards to deserving student-athletes within the graduating class. Congratulations to all of the winners!

OHSAA Scholar-Athlete Award

This award exemplifies the OHSAA Commitment to academic excellence while participating in interscholastic athletics. The award is given to the senior male and female who attained the highest scholastic average at the end of their fall semester. Recipients must also have earned multiple varsity letters over their careers.

This year's winners are Jenna Tennis and Troy Wise.

Archie Griffin Sportsmanship Award

As part of an ongoing program to promote Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity, the OHSAA recognizes students who display exemplary sportsmanship. Mr. Griffin is an Ohio native and the only two-time Heisman Trophy winner. During his time as a professional athlete and the CEO of The Ohio State University Alumni Association he always displayed the characteristics of sportsmanship, ethics and integrity.

This year's winners are Riley Willard and Trevor Riemer.

OHSAA Courageous Student Award

This award recognizes a student who has been involved in, or supportive of, the interscholastic athletic program and who deserves recognition for the courage they have exhibited while overcoming a serious injury, illness or disability.

If there was a poster child for this award it would be our 2023 recipient. Faced with a life-altering injury midway through his high school career he could have easily taken a different and darker path. Instead, the injury has motivated him, and he embraces each challenge with a determination and positive outlook that many of us wish we had. We are thankful he joined the track and field team this season and we can't wait to support him as he competes in three events at the State Championship June 2-3.

This year's OHSAA Courageous Student Awards goes to Max Carter.

 NFHS National Award for Excellence

This award is to be presented to a male and female student who has exhibited qualities that embody good citizenship, good moral character and good sporting behavior. Two individuals quickly came to mind when seeking qualified Middies. They are Alyssa Atkinson and Bryan Stone
