Albert Junior was an outstanding Football and Track Star at Midview in the first two years of its existence. His track events were the 100, 220, and 440 yard dashes and the long jump in which he set a Lorain County record, his senior year. He won three of those four events his junior year and all four of them as a senior at the Lorain County Track Meet. He received the “Gold Shoe” award as the meet’s outstanding performer, both years. He placed in the long jump at the state track meet, his senior year.

Albert’s’ impact on the football team was equally as great. The fall of 1955 brought him together with twenty-six others on that first Midview team. Nineteen had never played eleven-man football before. They previously went to the former Grafton and Eaton High Schools where six-man football was played. Albert’s presence and experience gave the Midview program instant credibility and his blend of speed and power propelled the Middies to a 5-1-1 season.

Albert scored sixteen touchdowns in a seven game schedule, his senior year and powered the Middies to a 6-1 record and the Big Five Championship. As great a runner as he was, he was equally effective as a defensive halfback. He could stop runners in their tracks or run them down from behind. Albert set the standard by which Midview running backs would be measured, for years to come and although Midview was an unknown, Albert was not, and he received a football scholarship to Bowling Green State University. He played there with the likes of Bernie Casey (SF49er fame) on its undefeated national small college championship team. He provided the foundation upon which the Midview Football and Track programs were built.

The annals of the athletic history of Midview High School and the Hall of Fame would not be complete without the name of Albert Junior.

Albert retired as an administrator from Lorain Schools. He resides in Elyria with his wife Lynette and has three grown children, Jeff, Marcie and Kathy.
