Understanding the rules, opportunities and action steps to succeed with NIL (Name, Image and Likeness) in high school sports.
On Monday, Nov. 24, 2025, the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) announced that the proposed NIL referendum was passed in the State of Ohio. Under these new NIL rules, student-athletes may participate in compensated opportunities using their personal brand. However, these activities must take place outside of school and without any use of Midview logos, facilities or employee involvement. Families are responsible for reviewing opportunities and completing the required OHSAA disclosure.
If further information is needed, please contact Athletics Director Dan May at dmay@midviewk12.org.
What is NIL?
Under Ohio's NIL rules, high school student-athletes may use their name, image and likeness to earn money through legal opportunities that have nothing to do with their school team or athletic performance. It is not payment for playing, scoring, winning or selecting which school to attend.
Consistent with OHSAA’s NIL rules, Midview will not assist students and families in facilitating or securing NIL agreements. The District may only provide educational matters surrounding the implications of entering an NIL agreement.
